Friday Favorites

Over at a blog I follow, Kelly's Korner, she does a fabulous segment, "Show Us Where You Live Friday." Well, I never participated because when I found it I was in between moving from one place to another....and neither were worth showing to anyone. Well now she is doing "Show Us Your Life" and today's theme is Wedding Dress. This fits in perfectly with my Favorite Friday because I loved my wedding dress! It was so simple! And to make this day even better: my husband and I met 5 years ago today! So here we go:

So here is my dress at the first fitting. I think it was made by Maggie Sotero. I went shopping in Holland, MI with my good friend Jen not expecting to get a dress. We went to a bridal show, a store that didn't even help us, and then finally to Jane's Bridal Shop. I tried a lot on, all of which I thought I wanted, and then I picked this one, which I really didn't think I would want. Oops, I was wrong! It was simple and beautiful. It had a corset, a semi full skirt and a large train.

I decided to do something a little different because I really dislike trains. I had the seamstress sew my bustle in. She had never had that request before, so I brought her some pictures and the finished product is above....it was perfect! This way my dress wouldn't drag on the grass as much, and I wouldn't have to worry about messing with the buslte later one. The dress did end up being a little too long and I tripped walking down the aisle...oh well...the day can't be perfect!

My mother in law and I made my veil which turned out to be gorgeous, but way more trouble than it was worth! I found the fabric, sheer with little embroidered flowers. However, I had to special order the fabric becuase it only came in ivory, then I had to get it shipped to me and so on and so on! It did look really great though!

Here's a great shot of the whole package. I have really fantastic professional pictures, but I haven't had a chance to scan them to the computer yet. Here's the link to our wedding album if anyone would like to see it.*

*I hated my photographer...HATED him. The pics turned out ok, but it wasn't a pleasant experience. If you need the password it is 080506.

Amy Winehouses' Day Job??

So, I think I've figured something out. As I was browsing the internet today, I came across this story involving Amy Winehouse and her always crazy antics. Now, I've always wondered how she gets her coke-hiding-pouf so damn perfect.

And then it hit me....she must be the brains behind Bump Its!! And here I thought it was just her music that made her famous. Thank you Ms. Winehouse...because of you we can all look this good.

Etsy Obsession: Glamourpuss

For those of you who are not familiar with etsy.com, you should become familiar, it's wonderful! Etsy is a marketplace of all things handmade. From clothes, to jewels, to artwork, to furniture and everything in between, you can find just about anything you could ever need, or want. For me, it's a great feeling to support a small business, but it also allows you to support local artisans in your area, some of which you may never have known existed.

The first store I am choosing to highlight actually was my first introduction to Etsy. Glamourpuss Creations is an artisan who focuses on vintage materials to create beautiful, one of a kind items. The store motto, "Authentic Vintage Jewels for the Hipster Hottie in you!" is oh so true! This artisan is also local for me, based in Boston, MA. Here is a snipit from the shop announcement:

"Welcome to Glamourpuss Creations! Offering hip jewelry and accessories made from the neatest *uncirculated* (new old stock) vintage materials. I pay careful attention to the quality, color and style of each piece, testing the drape and form for a proper fit."

Below I have created a mini of some of my favorites from this shop. *Please note that just because my profile name is listed below the "buy handmade" logo, I am NOT the creator of anything on Etsy* I would encourage anyone and everyone to check out Glamourpuss, "modern fare with vintage flair!" Enjoy!
